Dynamic Newtown marine and safety hardware manufacturer Makefast Ltd continued its run of success in the Powys Business Awards by collecting the Innovation Award sponsored by Welsh Government – their fourth award in three years.

From its core products, Makefast has branched out further into the marine market in recent years, producing a range of awnings, sunroofs, and other yacht fittings and systems.

A culture of innovation has been developed throughout the business, which encourages creative thinking and thorough market research. This year alone has seen the launch of 15 new products.

A unique product, which was developed in response to an identified need, prototyped and launched within six months, is already contributing over £750,000 to turnover.

“In spite of the costs and risks for a manufacturing company of this size, Makefast demonstrates a willingness to invest in breaking new ground in their market through innovation,” said the judges.

Operations director Mike Mills said: “We are just astounded to have won this award because the competition was so strong and impressive. To win an award for the third year running is a great achievement and a compliment to the whole staff at Makefast.”
